History
During the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The first company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machinery. In 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years.
