How to Properly Utilize a Forklift
Forklifts are material handling machinery which could move cargo. Normally, these equipment are used in certain industries to transport heavy materials in various environments such as airports, supply companies and warehouses. Anybody operating a lift truck should be taught to utilize the machine cautiously. It is vital to be totally aware of one's environment when driving a forklift. Forklifts are designed to run on propane, gasoline, batteries or diesel. Typical forklifts are popular in a wide range of commercial applications and are not hard to operate with proper training. The following steps outline the basics of utilizing a lift truck:

1 Get familiar with all the levers that are used to move and maneuver the load from location to another location. The levers could be found to the right side of the steering wheel.
2 The first lever controls the up and down movement of the forks. Pulling the lever towards your body moves the tines up, and pushing the lever away from you moves them down. Forks should be kept near the ground except when loading or unloading.
3 The other two levers control the tilt and the right/left movement of the forks. The tines are designed to tilt between 15 and 30 degrees. It is recommended that you practice prior to picking up a load. Utilizing the second lever, pull it towards your body to tilt the blades back, and push it away from your body to tilt the blades forward.
4 Lever number 4 is utilized to control the side to side movement of the forks from right to left. Just move the lever in the direction of where you want the forks to move: left in order to move the blades left, and right to move the tines right.
5 Carefully approach the cargo. Lower the forks and drive forward cautiously until the forks slide under the load. Then lift the blades a few centimeters by pulling the lever towards you. If the cargo is top-heavy, you should tilt the blades backwards a little for balance.
6 Safe driving regulations consist of taking corners slowly and honking to warn pedestrians or other employees that the lift truck is approaching. Approach the place where you will be working cautiously. Control the levers to maneuver the cargo to where it is going. When the cargo is placed, reverse gears and carefully back away.
7 A forklift stops the same way as an automobile. The brake is located to the accelerator's left side. When stopped, shift the gear into "park."
