Tower Crane Parts
Tower cranes enable the construction industry to build several amazing structures. These cranes have been used to reach ever-increasing heights. Tower cranes provide the way to lift and move supplies, tools and building parts all around a construction site. There are various components which assemble a tower crane when they are put together. Putting a tower crane together uses various pieces of construction machinery.
Base
The base of a tower crane is normally made from a steel unit. The units' base attaches to a custom pad made of concrete. This kind of set-up provides the structure with stability. Generally, the construction must be well engineered and constructed in order to operate at optimum safety.
Mast
The tower crane's mast provides the machine with its overall height. The mast is built out of separate steel parts which are connected together. The amount of parts determines the height of the crane. Typically, a tower crane has a design which enables the mast to grow during construction by adding more sections as the building process goes on. This way the height of the crane can be specified, making certain that it has enough height to carry out the needed work safely and efficiently.
Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is located at the top of the mast. This unit houses the equipment and the motor that enables the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of machine which allows the mast to grow. The top climber is located just below the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams in the top climber allow the slewing unit to be disconnected from the mast by raising it higher.
Boom
"Boom" is a term which specifically refers to the working arm of a tower crane. The boom is made of steel parts attached together, which extend out from the top of the slewing unit, parallel to the ground. There is a trolley connected to the underside that could run the length of the boom. This particular trolley has the hoisting device.
